Brekeke PBX Quick Start Guide

Setup your phone system in 3 easy steps!

This Quick Start Tutorial provides a guide to setting up VoIP PBX communications using the Brekeke PBX. The guide uses a SIP softphone and basic telephone for example purposes.

SIP User Agent (UA)<-> Brekeke PBX Server (PBX) <-> SIP User Agent (UA)

You can use any SIP-compliant products of your choice, however for this tutorial we will use X-Lite's softphone and Grandstream's Budgetone 100.

Note: This tutorial uses the Installer Program (Windows OS Only) for installation. Please refer to Brekeke PBX Administrator's Guide (Basic) for other installations.

Before installing Brekeke PBX, install the Java2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE). Please access the website http://java.sun.com/products/ to download, or refer to Brekeke PBX Administrator's Guide (Basic) v2.0 for more information.

What's Required?

  • A simple and inexpensive LAN switch, or hub, for setting up a small LAN environment
  • A Windows PC (i.e., Windows XP) with J2SE installed
  • X-Lite Softphone(www.counterpath.com)
  • Grandstream Budgetone 100 phone
Note: X-Lite requires a microphone and speaker for voice communication.

Download and Install

  1. Download Brekeke PBX from www.brekeke.com. Run the executable file.
  2. Go to Start > Program Files > Brekeke > Brekeke PBX to open the software.
  3. Login using "sa" for both [User] and [Password].

Step 1 - Set up Grandstream Budgetone 100

Making calls between Brekeke PBX users requires each user to be registered with Brekeke SIP Server. For this tutorial, the Grandstream Budgetone 100 is user1 and the X-Lite is user2. Please note, Brekeke SIP Server and Brekeke PBX will use the IP address 192.168.0.62 for demonstration purposes.
  1. From the Budgetone Configuration menu, select SIP Proxy
  2. Enter the IP address 192.168.0.62

Step 2 - Set up X-Lite

For this tutorial, 166 is the phone number for the user agent on the X-Lite softphone.
  1. Go to Menu >System Settings --> SIP Proxy > [default] :< your IP Address>
  2. Fill in all the necessary fields to register to Brekeke SIP Server.
  3. Check to ensure that both user agents are registered with Brekeke SIP Server under the Registered Clients tab.
You should see that the Grandstream Budgetone 100 and the X-Lite softphone are registered as users 555 and 166.

Step 3 - Create PBX Users

  1. Go to the Brekeke PBX Admintool and click "Users" to display all current users.
  2. Click New User, then enter 555 to create the Grandstream Budgetone 100 user.
  3. Note: Do not create any username that starts with 6, 7, and 8 as these numbers are used
as prefixes for Brekeke PBX Media Server.
  4. Click New User, then enter 166 to create the X-Lite user.

Make a Call

Using the tutorial information you created, user 166 can call user 555.
